FAQs

Your First Visit

It's not uncommon for patients to feel a bit apprehensive about their first physical therapy session. Don't worry! We will do our best to make you feel at ease. Your therapist will take the time to help you understand every aspect of treatment. Our friendly and knowledgeable office staff will help you cruise through the paperwork and the insurance maze.

What Do I Need to Bring?

The office staff will need your insurance card and a picture ID. If you have a prescription from your doctor, please bring that with you.

Do I Need a Prescription?

No you don't!  Alabama is a direct access state so you can be evaluated by a Physical Therapist without a prescription. We will communicate with your doctor on your plan of care.  Visit the PATIENT FORMS tab for the required forms.  Feel free to fill these out ahead of time and bring them with you to expedite your initial evaluation.

What Do I Need to Wear?

For the therapy session, wear comfortable clothing or bring gym shorts or sweats. If your child has orthotics or adaptive equipment, please bring those along, too.  Tennis shoes are advisable as we move around ALOT!

How Long Will the Session Last?

The first visit, or initial evaluation, will take about an hour. This provides our therapist with the required time to gather as much information about your injury or condition as possible and to develop the best plan of action. Follow-up visits usually last from 30 minutes to one hour depending on the depth of your treatment.

"My son was diagnosed with plagiocephaly and torticollis when he was 2 months old. We started going to Compass and within 4 months he is completely in normal range. Stephanie is great at what she does and was amazing with my son. I actually looked forward to taking him to physical therapy. I would recommend her to anyone in the area!" -Megan

"We adopted our daughter a little over a year ago. She has Spina Bifida and needed lots of help to walk. Stephanie and Kate have been PHENOMENAL!! Our daughter now walks great, and even runs most of the time all without assistance! They go above and beyond. We are so thankful for Compass and all they have done for us!" -Drew
